Personal, Social and Health Education

At Christ Church, we understand the importance of providing an education which gives children the knowledge, skills, and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe and to prepare them for life and work in modern Britain.

Our PSHE provision helps our children to achieve their academic potential, and leave school equipped with skills they will need throughout later life. Through PSHE, we help pupils to manage many of the most critical opportunities, challenges and responsibilities they will face growing up.

At Christ Church we have adopted Jigsaw, the mindful approach to PSHE/HWB, which brings together Personal, Social, Health Education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning. This links well with our School Vision enabling every child to flourish in all aspects of their development. Our school values of trust, compassion, respect, wisdom, perseverance and service are embedded well throughout and provide a thread on which to base our learning.

Children are taught a lesson a week where teachers focus on tailoring the lessons to their children’s needs and to enjoy building the relationship with their class, getting to know them better as unique human beings.

Teaching strategies are varied and are mindful of preferred learning styles and the need for differentiation. Our curriculum is designed as a whole school approach, with all year groups working on the same theme (Puzzle) at the same time. There are six themes throughout the year. Each theme begins with an introductory assembly, generating a whole school focus for adults and children alike.
